Writing Groups

The Powell River Public Library is happy to provide writing groups for a variety of ages and experience levels.

Poetry Circle

A shared creative space for poetry with Amira Abouelalla for listening, connecting, and being inspired. See the calendar for details or contact edgar@prpl.ca for more information.

Memoir Writing for Seniors

More than 100 people have participated in a seven-week Memoir Writing for Seniors course and many of them continue to meet monthly through the Library’s Monthly Memoir Writing programs. These initiatives have also resulted in more than a dozen events in which seniors have read short memoirs to the community, and the Library has even published annual books of seniors’ memoirs. Seniors have great stories and wonderful life experience. With the Library’s help these local writers can share stories with their children, grandchildren, friends and fans, who learn things about them that they never would have known otherwise. Plus, more and more research is confirming the many benefits derived from memoir writing including increased social and emotional well-being!

Are you a writer with questions? Or looking for resources? Email Mark Merlino at mmerlino@prpl.ca or visit the Powell River Public Library’s Facebook page for Memoir Writers
