Library Public Computers Policy

The Library provides free public computers to access the internet, perform basic office tasks, use learning and literacy-enhancing software provided by the Library and to consult the Library’s catalogue.

Patrons must use only the software provided by the Library on its public computers. Please ask for assistance from staff at any time.

The Library provides access to its public computers and internet according to the principles of Intellectual Freedom and consistent with its Mission and Vision.

Patrons who use Public computers are expected to adhere to the Library’s Etiquette and Decorum Policy. and the Public Computers and Internet Access Policy.

Terms of Agreement for Using Public Computers

The Library uses PC Reservation software to manage its public computers and laptops.

I agree to the following:

  • Use only my own valid Library card number to gain access to the Library’s computers.
  • Abide by the daily limits on public computer use. If it’s after 6 p.m. and I would like to have more time on the public computers, I will ask at the Service Desk staff for an extension.
  • Gather my belongings promptly when my session ends, so that others may use the computers.
  • Pay for all printed copies, even those printed by mistake.
  • Only use the public computers for legal activities as well as conform to copyright laws and regulations
  • Refrain from harassing or bullying anyone online.
  • Be courteous and respectful of other people using the Library.
  • Respect the privacy of other public computer users.
  • Avoid viewing images, videos, websites that may be offensive to other Library users.
  • Use only the software provided by the Library.
  • Refrain from eating or drinking while using the computers.

Please remember that parents and guardians are responsible for their children’s use of Library resources, including the public computers.

Public Computer and Internet Use by Children

All children, regardless of age, may use the Library’s public computers and Internet.

It is the responsibility of parents and guardians to limit their children’s use of Library computers and Internet and enforce those limits if they wish. The Library assumes that all children who use the Library computers and Internet have their parent’s or guardian’s permission if required.
Parents and guardians are solely responsible for how their children use computers at the Library even when their children are unaccompanied.

Connection speed may vary depending on various factors.

You are responsible for ensuring your configuration on your personal machine or device. Our staff may not be able to provide support.

We reserve the right to terminate a connection at any time without further notice. In extreme cases, we may withdraw all wireless services at any time and without further notice.

I agree to the following:

  • Responsibility for protecting personal equipment against any potential abuse such as viruses, malware and breach of privacy (for example by having up-to-date anti-virus software and firewalls, etc.) as well as against physical theft or damage. PRPL is not responsible for any direct or indirect damages (security, data files or hardware etc.) arising from the use of the public internet.
  • Only use the public computers or public internet for legal activities as well as conform to copyright laws and regulations.
