Let the wild rumpus begin! This year’s Summer Reading Club will set your imagination in motion and keep it rolling through seven weeks of FREE programs from book clubs to fast-paced workshops.

SRC Kick-off: Percussive Parade

Register for Battle of the Books as well as the rest of our programs below! Design your own banners and noisemakers, invent some raucous rhythms and chants, and raise a ruckus with Women’s Punk Rock Choir leader and parade guru Jennye.

After the death of his mother, Peter rescues a baby fox from the cold and rears it as a pet and friend. This year’s Senior Book Club pick, Sara Pennypacker’s Pax, is told through alternating chapters, with one strand following 12-year-old Peter and the other Pax, as each grows wilder and tougher as they try to return to one another against all odds.

Make your own multidimensional wind-powered flying machine with Teen Services Coordinator Megan Cole.

Get inventive in this blown-up futuristic twist on the parlour game where each player draws a separate part of a body without seeing the other players’ drawings until the very end. Using larger-than-human paper and jumbo brushes, the resulting Franken-Robots will be big, bright, and beyond your wildest imaginings.
Hoop de Loop!

Just as a sphere is endless so too are the possibilities of a hula hoop. Professional hooper Kelly Von Bargen will give a demo and teach you some loopy tricks in this energetic workshop that’s guaranteed to take you for a spin.
Inventor’s Club: Wild Transportation

Using nature as your inspiration, design a vehicle for land, water or air from doodles, to blueprints to cardboard models with moving parts. Grown-up design and building professionals will be on-location to help you along the way!
Flip Out with Rabideye
AGES 8+| 10:30-NOON AUG. 2 | FIRST CREDIT COMMUNITY ROOM
Draw fast and furious with animation expert Giovanni Spezzacatena, a.k.a. Rabideye. Warm up with animation blitzes then set your ink in motion with collaborative flip books. Boom!
The Last Straw Egg Drop Challenge
ALL AGES | 10:30-NOON AUG. 9 | FIRST CREDIT COMMUNITY ROOM
Kids and caregivers are invited to team up to thwart the forces of gravity and momentum in this delicate and potentially eggsplosive engineering challenge. Build a force-deflecting cage for your egg using only hockey tape and paper straws and test its effectiveness from two heights in the Library’s entrance atrium!

SPECIAL PERFORMANCE: Story Theatre Off the Shelf 3PM JULY 25 | FIRST CREDIT COMMUNITY ROOM Story Theatre’s performers bring classic tales & fables to life in an action-packed presentation full of ideas, excitement and fun. No registration. Just show up!
