Submission deadline extended!! New deadline: May 30, 2020
UPDATE: Since mid-March 2020, the Powell River Public Library has been closed due to physical distancing measures related to the COVID-19 crisis. Due to the closure the Library has decided to extend the submission deadline to May 30, 2020 and will initially publish the magazine as an e-publication with a print product to be produced when the library re-opens. The Library has also opened submissions to ages 12-25 years old.
What is Scrawl?
Scrawl is a journal that showcases the writing, and visual art of Powell River and the qathet Regional District youth. Similar to publications like Vancouver Public Library’s Ink, or Coastal Voices published in partnership by the Sunshine Coast Festival of Written arts and School District 46, Scrawl will be a compilation of work written and produced by teens and young adults in our community.
Leading up to the submission deadline on May 30, 2020, the Powell River Public Library will host workshops focused on helping writers and artists develop, edit and polish work to be submitted for the first issue of Scrawl to be published in June 2020 as an e-publication and printed when the library re-opens following the COVID-19 crisis. Submissions will be evaluated and adjudicated by local writers.
