Writer Stephen King said, “If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot. There is no way around these two things that I am aware of, no shortcut.”

Writing is about practice and process. Through this writing group you will practice writing, and peer-editing in a welcoming, and inclusive environment. This group will be a place to share ideas, ask for help, and to grow as a writer.

As an aspiring writer one the hardest things is to get into a routine with writing. For the first part of the one and a half hour drop-in session, we’ll start with a free-writing exercise inspired by a prompt provided by Megan Cole, teen services coordinator. From there the group will move into an opportunity to work on existing writing projects, build on what was started in the free-writing, ask for feedback on an in-progress piece, or help others edit what they’re working on.

Paper and pens will be provided. If you wish to work on something you’ve already started, please bring a copy with you. Sharing inspiring essays, short stories and novels will also be encouraged.

No registration is required.
