The Library will be screening eleven exceptional Canadian films that were awarded Oscars at the Academy Awards.

Day 3 (Feb 15, 2pm and 7pm) – Flamenco at 5:15 (1983), Bob’s Birthday (1993), Ryan (2004), The Danish Poet (2006)

 Flamenco at 5:15 (1983) – Academy Award Winner of the Best Documentary Short Subject in 1984. For a few weeks each year, in the depths of winter, senior students at the National Ballet School of Canada are treated to a style of dance that is unlike any other – flamenco.

Bob’s Birthday (1994) – Academy Award Winner of the Best Animated Short Film in 1995. A devoted and happily-married housewife organises a surprise party on the occasion of her husband’s birthday, unbeknownst to her that her dentist spouse is experiencing a sudden mid-life crisis at his office.

Ryan (2004)  – Academy Award Winner of the Best Animated Short Film in 2005. The movie talks about the life of Ryan Larkin, a gifted Canadian animator of the late ’60s and the early ’70s.

The Danish Poet (2006)  – Academy Award Winner of the Best Animated Short Film in 2007. A woman ponders over the strange coincidences that made her forefathers and -mothers meet and create the premises for her becoming the person that she is.
