In the chaotic countryside of post-Revolutionary France, Odette and her flighty mother, always on the move, try to make a home in the town of Nevers. Gay and intersex representation fits smoothly into the historical setting.
Brought to you by the Powell River Friends of the Library, the Powell River Public Library presents author Sara Cassidy speaking about Nevers. Nevers was finalist for the 2020 BC and Yukon Book Prizes Sheila A. Egoff Children’s Literature Prize, the 2020 Governor General’s Literary Award in Young People’s Literature, the Rocky Mountain Book Award and the Chocolate Lily Award.
Sara Cassidy’s poems and short stories have been published in The Malahat Review, Geist, Fiddlehead, Grain, Prairie Fire, ottawater, CV2, Barren Magazine, and other literary journals. Her feature articles, columns and reviews have appeared in such places as the Winnipeg Free Press, Halifax Chronicle Herald, Focus Magazine, and the Globe and Mail. A piece for Today’s Parent won a National Magazine Award (Gold).
Sara’s 17 children’s books include finalists for the Governor General’s Literary Award in Young People’s Literature, Sheila A. Egoff Children’s Literature Prize, Chocolate Lily Award, City of Victoria Children’s Book Prize, Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Children’s Book Award, Diamond Willow Award, Silver Birch Express Award, and the Sunburst Award for Excellence in Canadian Literature of the Fantastic.
