Memoir Writing for Seniors

The writing-handsLibrary has been helping seniors write their memoirs for six years now! More than 100 people have participated in a seven-week Memoir Writing for Seniors course and many of them continue to meet monthly through the Library’s Monthly Memoir Writing programs. These initiatives have also resulted in more than a dozen events in which seniors have read short memoirs to the community, and the Library has even published two books of seniors’ memoirs.

Seniors have great stories and wonderful life experience. With the Library’s help these local writers can share stories with their children, grandchildren, friends and fans, who learn things about them that they never would have known otherwise. Plus, more and more research is confirming the many benefits derived from memoir writing including increased social and emotional well-being!
